Special

"I am fine, I am happy" said Ajay a 'mentally' (intellectually) challenged individual.

I wondered, when was the last time I said this to myself
How often do we say this and truly mean it?

Ajay is indeed special.

I believe that mankind, when scientifically or philosophically inclined, is incapable of happiness. I know this is true for myself, there's always one more thing to do...and worse yet, one thing I didn't get to do or something I failed at while doing it.

Although the life of discovery in one well lived, it is also one a little cursed.

I believe that mankind is capable of finding happiness as it depends on the individual choices we make. We make decisions that gives us satisfaction or happiness directly or indirectly. No act in my opinion is selfless (in the literal sense of the word).

I believe that Happiness is and should be the goal of all human action.

Yeah, I know how that feels, the nagging feeling that you can do more or do something better but I feel maybe, we need to pause more than once in a while and be happy or satisfied with the things we have managed to do however small it may be.

Happiness is the result of pain. Without this sadness, one would not know what joy means.

Quackster, I disagree. Recognition of happiness may be a partial result of pain, but happiness as a phenomenon itself exists independent of pain or sadness.

Rachana, I believe that perhaps temporary happiness is possible, but even on the most basic level we will always need something more, whether that be biological needs such as food, or higher cognitive achievements of a scientific/philosophical nature. Happiness is a standstill, the feeling one gets when a certain goal is accomplished. Perhaps it is possible for some to maintain this goal forever, but personally I don't think that it will ever be the case for me.

Quackster, I agree with Kai with regards to the existence of happiness independent of pain but then I also believe that in order to know true happiness we need to feel pain.

Kai, what I was refering to in my post was temporary happiness. Maybe the moment we are completely satisfied or happy (if that's possible) we will cease to grow and learn.

My concern when I wrote this post stemmed from personal confusion and questioning as to how often do even allow ourselves to feel this temporary happiness since we are always looking or searching for something more.

Somal, happiness is a state of mind which also means that each individual is responsible for his or her own happiness since it is we who control our mind, feelings and thoughts.

I am not sure if happiness has many definitions but yes we all have our own reasons for feeling this ultimate feeling :)
